The Nib Safety Net

"Gravity Happens. We’ve Got You Covered."

We know the heartbreak of a fountain pen hitting the floor. As a member of our Creative Rewards, you don't have to worry about the 'tines.' If the worst happens, just send us a photo and we'll send you a 50% discount for a fresh start.

"The Nib Safety Net" – Terms & Conditions

  • Eligibility: This benefit is exclusive to active members of the Creative Rewards program at the time of the accident.
  • Coverage: The 50% discount applies strictly to accidental damage (e.g., dropping the pen) that renders the nib unusable. It does not cover intentional damage, loss of the pen, theft, or normal wear and tear.
  • The Claim: To activate your discount, you must provide a clear photo of the damaged nib and your original order number to oops@yourstore.com.
  • Limitations: This discount is valid for a one-time replacement per pen purchased and applies only to the cost of the replacement nib unit. It cannot be combined with other promotional codes or used for full pen replacements.
  • Availability: We will provide the discount for the exact nib model where stock is available. If the model is discontinued, we will offer a 50% discount on a comparable alternative nib unit.

The analogue manga workflow

Before digital, every grey on a manga page was screentone: a printed adhesive film, cut to shape with a fine knife and burnished down with a spatula. Deleter has supplied that workflow to Japanese manga artists for decades, and many artists still use it for its look — real printed dots with a crispness that digital tone imitates.

Choosing a tone

The percentage is how much of the sheet the dots cover: 5% is a very light grey, 30% a mid-grey. 60-line is a fine dot that reads as a smooth grey on the page. Most artists start with a light tone for skin and sky, a mid tone for clothing and shadow, and a gradation for backgrounds and light effects.

Honest Note:

Screentone takes practice: cut too far and you slice your drawing, burnish too early and you cannot reposition. Work on a hard, smooth surface and keep unused tone on its backing sheet, away from heat and light, so the adhesive stays usable. Tone does not scan perfectly at every resolution — fine dots can create moiré patterns if you scan at low resolution.

Who is it For?

• Manga and comic artists working traditionally
• Illustrators who want real printed greys rather than digital tone
• Zine makers who want a classic manga look on the page

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUSTIONS (FAQ)

Which tones should I start with?

10% and a 30% dot cover most needs; add a gradation for backgrounds.

Do I need special tools?

A Tone Knife to cut and a Tone Hera to burnish give the cleanest results.

Can I scan work with screentone?

Yes — scan at high resolution to avoid moiré.
