A whole paint box in your pocket
Most travel palettes leave you to find a brush, water and something to draw with. Kuretake’s box packs the lot: paints, a mixing palette, a bottle of water, a brush and a pencil, in a case small enough for a coat pocket. Sketch, paint and close the lid.
Transparent, not gansai
Kuretake is best known for Gansai Tambi, its Japanese watercolour that sits opaquely on the page. These are different: transparent watercolours from Kuretake’s Fis range, made to be layered. Each wash lets the paper and the colour beneath glow through, and the colours keep their brightness when you mix them — good for layering, blending wet into wet and soft edges.
