Made for the manga workflow
Manga is inked in black, then toned, coloured or scanned — and every stage after inking can ruin a line that is not fully fixed. The Mangaka range uses pigment ink that stays put under alcohol markers and watercolour, so linework survives colouring. Kuretake’s ZIG brand has made pens since the 1970s; Mangaka is its dedicated range for comic artists.
Why so many sizes
Different parts of a page need different lines: 003 and 005 for hair, eyes and hatching; 01–03 for figure outlines; 05 and 08 for panel borders and bold contours. The Flexible pens add brush-like swell for expressive linework in a pen you do not need to dip.
Honest Note:
Who is it For?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUSTIONS (FAQ)
Will the ink bleed under Copic markers?
Not once fully dry. Allow a moment for the ink to set before colouring.
Which sizes should I start with?
An 005 for detail, an 03 for outlines and an 08 for borders cover most of a page.
What are the Flexible pens?
Brush-tip versions of the same ink — they give thick-to-thin lines with pressure, like a brush pen.
