The analogue manga workflow
Before digital, every grey on a manga page was screentone: a printed adhesive film, cut to shape with a fine knife and burnished down with a spatula. Deleter has supplied that workflow to Japanese manga artists for decades, and many artists still use it for its look — real printed dots with a crispness that digital tone imitates.
How to use them
Lay a piece of tone slightly larger than the area over your drawing, cut around the shape with the Tone Knife, peel away the excess, then rub the remaining tone down firmly with the Hera. Use the knife tip to scratch away dots for highlights and soft gradations.

Who is it For?

Can I use a craft knife instead?
Yes, but the Tone Knife’s smaller blade is easier to control on tight curves and for scratching highlights.
