Platinum since 1919
Platinum was founded in 1919 by Shunichi Nakata and is one of Japan’s three great fountain pen makers. It is best known for two inventions working pen users rely on: Slip & Seal, a cap that stops pens drying out, and Carbon Black, a pigment ink safe for fountain pens.
Why Soft Fine
Platinum’s fine nibs are among the finest in the world — an F writes like a European extra-fine. The Soft Fine keeps that precision but adds spring: press a little and the line swells slightly, giving handwriting and sketches some life. It is not a flex nib, but it is one of the most pleasant everyday gold nibs made.

Who is it For?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUSTIONS (FAQ)
What does Slip & Seal actually do?
A spring-loaded inner cap seals the nib airtight when capped, so ink does not evaporate. Pens can sit unused for months and still write first time.
How fine is Soft Fine?
About a European extra-fine, with a little cushion and gentle line variation under pressure.
Can I use Carbon Black in it?
Yes — Platinum Carbon Black is designed for Platinum pens. Flush it regularly.
