The Nib Safety Net

"Gravity Happens. We’ve Got You Covered."

We know the heartbreak of a fountain pen hitting the floor. As a member of our Creative Rewards, you don't have to worry about the 'tines.' If the worst happens, just send us a photo and we'll send you a 50% discount for a fresh start.

"The Nib Safety Net" – Terms & Conditions

  • Eligibility: This benefit is exclusive to active members of the Creative Rewards program at the time of the accident.
  • Coverage: The 50% discount applies strictly to accidental damage (e.g., dropping the pen) that renders the nib unusable. It does not cover intentional damage, loss of the pen, theft, or normal wear and tear.
  • The Claim: To activate your discount, you must provide a clear photo of the damaged nib and your original order number to oops@yourstore.com.
  • Limitations: This discount is valid for a one-time replacement per pen purchased and applies only to the cost of the replacement nib unit. It cannot be combined with other promotional codes or used for full pen replacements.
  • Availability: We will provide the discount for the exact nib model where stock is available. If the model is discontinued, we will offer a 50% discount on a comparable alternative nib unit.

Calibrated Precision for Technical Inking
The Uni Pin range is built around a robust, metal-shrouded polyacetal tip that maintains a fixed, unyielding line width across its lifespan. The magic sits entirely in the chemical formulation of the ink: the carbon pigment particles chemically bind to paper fibers, rendering the lines completely immune to water, alcohol markers, and erasing forces. This makes them the ultimate layout tool to establish your linework before overlaying liquid media or heavy graphite under-sketching.

Choosing the right width
Three widths serve different roles. The 0.1mm is for highly detailed cross-hatching, architectural linework, and any area where a 0.3mm would be too heavy. The 0.1mm tip is fragile and should not be pressed on rough paper surfaces. The 0.3mm is the most versatile — fine enough for most detailed work and robust enough for regular daily use. The 0.5mm is for outlines, thicker marks, and panels where a more confident, broader line is appropriate. Most illustrators use two widths — 0.3mm for detail and 0.5mm for outlines.

Honest Note:

While Uni Super Ink is completely waterproof, you must allow a 60-second curing window for the pigment particles to lock into the paper before running heavy watercolor or ink washes over your lines. The fine 0.1mm tip is a delicate structural element; if you press down heavily or drag it across textured cold-press watercolor paper, you will abrade the tip and split the internal ink feed. Use it on smooth Bristol board or layout paper.

Who is it For?

  • Illustrators who ink pencil drawings before adding light watercolour or wash
  • Manga artists who use fineliners for detail work alongside dip pens
  • Art students and educators who need a reliable, accessible inking tool
  • Anyone who needs a consistent fine line pen that holds up under light wet media

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUSTIONS (FAQ)

Which width should I start with?

0.3mm is the most versatile starting width — fine enough for most detail work, robust enough for regular use without the fragility of the 0.1mm. Add a 0.5mm for outlines and thicker marks if your illustration style uses distinct outline weights. The 0.1mm is for specialists who need maximum fineness.

How do fineliners compare to dip pens for illustration?

Fineliners produce a consistent, fixed line width — every stroke at a given pressure produces the same weight. Dip pens produce variable line width through flex — press for thick, release for thin. For line consistency and portability, fineliners are easier. For expressive line variation and full waterproof performance, dip pens with De Atramentis or Kakimori are better. Most professional illustrators use both for different purposes
