Kaweco Sport Fountain Pen

Kaweco Sport Fountain Pen

The Kaweco Sport is a German pocket fountain pen, in continuous production since 1911. At under 11cm capped and built to survive being thrown in a bag with keys and loose change, it is the most consistently recommended pocket fountain pen in the stationery community — and the correct default for an art journaller who wants one reliable pen they don't have to baby.

The Nib Safety Net

"Gravity Happens. We’ve Got You Covered."

We know the heartbreak of a fountain pen hitting the floor. As a member of our Creative Rewards, you don't have to worry about the 'tines.' If the worst happens, just send us a photo and we'll send you a 50% discount for a fresh start.

"The Nib Safety Net" – Terms & Conditions

  • Eligibility: This benefit is exclusive to active members of the Creative Rewards program at the time of the accident.
  • Coverage: The 50% discount applies strictly to accidental damage (e.g., dropping the pen) that renders the nib unusable. It does not cover intentional damage, loss of the pen, theft, or normal wear and tear.
  • The Claim: To activate your discount, you must provide a clear photo of the damaged nib and your original order number to oops@yourstore.com.
  • Limitations: This discount is valid for a one-time replacement per pen purchased and applies only to the cost of the replacement nib unit. It cannot be combined with other promotional codes or used for full pen replacements.
  • Availability: We will provide the discount for the exact nib model where stock is available. If the model is discontinued, we will offer a 50% discount on a comparable alternative nib unit.

Kaweco has made small pocket pens since 1911, originally for sportsmen who needed something they could carry without thinking about it. The Sport hasn’t changed in profile since — short and capless-feeling when closed, but the cap posts onto the back of the barrel to give a full, comfortable writing length. It’s available across plastic, acrylic, aluminium, and brass bodies, so the same trusted nib and mechanism scales from an inexpensive everyday-carry pen to a weightier metal version for someone who wants more presence in the hand. It’s the pen that comes up unprompted, independently, across nearly every “best pocket pen” and “best travel pen” list — not because it’s the most exciting option, but because it’s the one that doesn’t let people down.

Honest Note:

The plastic and acrylic versions have no pocket clip as standard — a clip is sold separately if you want to carry it clipped into a pocket rather than loose in a bag. The mini converter holds noticeably less ink than a standard-size converter, so expect more frequent refills if you fill from bottle rather than cartridge — a fair trade for the pocketable size, but worth setting expectations on.

Who is it For?

  • Art journallers who want one dependable pen for daily carry rather than a precious, occasional-use pen
  • Anyone wanting to try bottled inks on the move — the mini converter makes this straightforward, unlike cartridge-only pocket pens
  • Customers who want a choice of weight and finish: plastic for low-stakes everyday use, aluminium for something more refined, brass for a pen that ages and develops character over time

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUSTIONS (FAQ)

Plastic, aluminium, or brass — which should I choose?

Plastic is the lightest and most affordable, and is genuinely durable rather than a compromise — it's the right choice for a pen you don't want to worry about. Aluminium feels more refined in the hand without much added weight. Brass is heaviest and will develop a patina with handling, similar to the Traveler's Company pen, for someone who wants their pen to visibly age with them.

Can I use bottled ink, or is it cartridge-only?

Both. The mini converter (sold separately) lets you fill from any bottle; the pen also accepts standard international short cartridges, which is a genuinely useful difference from pens using proprietary formats.

Which nib size should I pick for journalling and sketching?

Fine is the most versatile starting point — enough line variation to be expressive without skipping on the lighter paper found in many journals. Extra Fine suits small, dense handwriting or detailed sketching; Medium and above suit anyone who wants more ink character (shading, sheen) from the inks already stocked.
