Maker’s Cabinet Ferrule (Pencil Extender)

Maker’s Cabinet Ferrule (Pencil Extender)

The Ferrule is a solid brass pencil extender from Maker’s Cabinet — it grips the end of a worn-down pencil and gives it back a full, comfortable writing length, so the last third of every pencil gets used rather than discarded.

The Nib Safety Net

"Gravity Happens. We’ve Got You Covered."

We know the heartbreak of a fountain pen hitting the floor. As a member of our Creative Rewards, you don't have to worry about the 'tines.' If the worst happens, just send us a photo and we'll send you a 50% discount for a fresh start.

"The Nib Safety Net" – Terms & Conditions

  • Eligibility: This benefit is exclusive to active members of the Creative Rewards program at the time of the accident.
  • Coverage: The 50% discount applies strictly to accidental damage (e.g., dropping the pen) that renders the nib unusable. It does not cover intentional damage, loss of the pen, theft, or normal wear and tear.
  • The Claim: To activate your discount, you must provide a clear photo of the damaged nib and your original order number to oops@yourstore.com.
  • Limitations: This discount is valid for a one-time replacement per pen purchased and applies only to the cost of the replacement nib unit. It cannot be combined with other promotional codes or used for full pen replacements.
  • Availability: We will provide the discount for the exact nib model where stock is available. If the model is discontinued, we will offer a 50% discount on a comparable alternative nib unit.

The object that changes how far a pencil goes

Most pencils get thrown away when they’re still about a third full — once the stub is too short to hold comfortably, it goes in the bin. The Ferrule removes that point from the equation. Slide the stub into the brass sleeve, and it becomes a full-length pen again with a weighted, comfortable grip. The brass itself is the correct material for this: heavy enough to balance a short pencil properly, durable enough to outlast many pencils, and honest about what it is rather than pretending to be anything else.

Maker’s Cabinet built the Ferrule as a direct expression of the same principle behind everything they make: that the sustainable choice and the better-designed choice should be the same thing. It includes a small eraser that can be replaced separately when it wears out, which extends the useful life further without requiring a new piece.

Honest Note:

The Ferrule works from roughly halfway through a pencil — it will not grip a pencil worn down to the very last centimetre. If you want something that extracts every last millimetre of lead, that is not what this is designed to do.

Who is it For?

  • Anyone who goes through pencils regularly and currently throws away the last third
  • A small, considered gift for someone whose drawing or writing practice is pencil-based
  • A pairing piece alongside the Høvel sharpener as a complete pencil-care gift set

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUSTIONS (FAQ)

Does this fit coloured pencils as well as graphite?

Yes — the sleeve mechanism works on most standard hex and round pencil profiles regardless of core type.

How short does a pencil need to be before Ferrule stops helping?

There’s a minimum usable stub length, roughly 4–5cm, below which even Ferrule can’t get a comfortable grip. It rescues the last third of a pencil, not the very last centimetre.

Is this a gift for someone who already has a lot of stationery?

Deliberately, yes — the Ferrule is strongest as a gift for someone who already uses pencils regularly and will immediately understand what it’s for. For a newcomer to stationery, the Høvel sharpener makes a more instantly impressive Tier 2 gift.

Can I buy replacement erasers separately?

Yes — Maker’s Cabinet sells replacement eraser refills separately, which is part of the long-term value argument for the piece.
