Clean and condition — what makes Masters Brush Cleaner different
Most brush cleaning approaches — rinsing in water, swirling in a jar, wiping on a cloth — remove pigment from the brush hairs but do nothing to maintain the structural quality of the hair itself. Over time, natural hair that is regularly cleaned without conditioning loses elasticity and spring: the fibres become more brittle, the spring that snaps the brush tip back to its point diminishes, and the brush gradually loses the defining quality that makes Kolinsky sable worth investing in. Masters Brush Cleaner does both jobs: the soap base removes ink and pigment effectively, and the conditioning agents — the same chemistry used in hair conditioner — restore elasticity to natural hair fibres. For a Kolinsky sable brush where the spring is the primary quality, a few seconds of conditioning cleaning at the end of each session extends the life and performance of the brush materially over months of use.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I use Masters Brush Cleaner?

Wet the brush under running water. Pick up a small amount of cleaner from the surface of the pot by pressing the wet brush against it gently. Work the cleaner into the brush hairs with a gentle circular motion against the palm of your hand — you will see the ink or pigment working out of the hairs. Rinse under running water, repeat until the water runs clear. Reshape the brush tip and leave to dry flat or brush-tip-up in a container. The brush will feel soft and conditioned rather than stiff.

Can I use this on synthetic brushes?

Yes — Masters Brush Cleaner works on synthetic brushes as a cleaning agent and the conditioning effect, while less pronounced than on natural hair, is not harmful. Synthetic brush fibres do not have the same structural requirements as natural hair but the gentle conditioning formulation does no damage and the cleaning performance is effective.

How long does 60ml last?

Variable depending on brush size and frequency of use. For botanical illustration at two to three sessions per week with Size 4 and Size 2 sable brushes, a 60ml pot typically lasts three to four months. Larger brushes require more product per cleaning.
