High-Performance Synthetic Engineering
The Pentel Pocket Brush is legendary because it rejects molded plastic tips in favor of a true individual bristle bundle. This synthetic nylon construction offers a tighter, snappier return-to-neutral than the longer Pentel GFKP, allowing illustrators to transition instantly from hair-thin details to bold, gestural sweeps. The pen comes bundled with two Pentel FP10 cartridges containing a rich, carbon-pigment black ink that dries completely archival, fade-resistant, and 100% waterproof.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How is the Pocket Brush different from the Pentel GFKP in practice?

Both pens use synthetic nylon bristles. The Pocket Brush has a finer, shorter bristle bundle with more spring — the tip snaps back more decisively and comes to a crisper point, producing more controlled, precise line variation. The GFKP has a longer, more forgiving bristle bundle suited to looser, more gestural illustration. The Pocket Brush ink (FP10) is also permanently waterproof when dry, making it suitable for pen and wash work. The GFKP uses a different cartridge format. Both are excellent brush pens; the Pocket Brush rewards slightly more deliberate technique.

Can the Pocket Brush be refilled with other inks?

The cartridge can be refilled with water-based inks using a syringe, though Pentel does not officially support this. Synthetic nylon tips are slightly more sensitive to ink chemistry than nylon — test any non-Pentel ink on a small amount of loaded hair before committing to a full refill.
