Why Zeta is the correct illustration sketchbook for most practitioners
The Zeta's design brief is illustrated pen and ink work with wet media capability. At 270gsm with both internal and surface sizing, Zeta handles multiple watercolour wash layers without buckling — it is not a light-wash-only paper. The smooth surface is excellent for dip pen, fountain pen, and marker work: nibs glide without catching and fine lines read crisply. Watercolour and ink wash can be applied freely. The surface sizing slows absorption and keeps pigment at the surface, producing vivid colour. The wire-o binding option allows the sketchbook to lie completely flat when open. Hardbound and softbound formats are also available. All formats use the same 270gsm Zeta paper.

Zeta versus Beta — understanding the difference
Both Zeta and Beta are 270gsm with the same internal and surface sizing and wet media capability. The difference is surface character. Zeta's smooth surface produces clean, crisp pen lines and is excellent for mixed media work that includes significant pen and ink. Beta's cold press surface has more tooth — watercolour sits differently in the texture and the surface has a more traditional watercolour paper character. If your practice is primarily pen with watercolour, Zeta is the natural choice. If your practice is primarily watercolour with occasional pen accents, Beta's cold press surface may suit you better. Both handle wet media well.
