Four inks for four different jobs
Deleter dominates the UK manga ink conversation but IC has a different ink character that many professional artists prefer for specific tasks. The range is built around four formulations: Type 1 is optimised for dip pen linework, producing a smooth flow and matte black line that scans cleanly; Type 2 is formulated for filling solid black areas without leaving brush marks; Type 3 is specifically designed for inking over screentones, where standard inks can cause adhesion problems; and Super White is an opaque correction white that can be drawn over after drying and used over coloured backgrounds. Each does one thing well rather than attempting to do everything.
How IC differs from Deleter
Deleter Black 4 is the most widely used manga ink in Japan and the correct choice for most situations. IC offers a different approach: the inks sit on top of the paper rather than absorbing into it, which produces a different surface quality particularly for Type 2 fill work where evenness matters. Some artists use IC Type 1 for linework and Deleter Black 4 for solid fills, or vice versa — they are complementary rather than competing. Super White has a higher viscosity than Deleter White 1, which suits some correction and highlighting techniques.

Who is it For?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUSTIONS (FAQ)
Which IC ink type should I start with?
Type 1 for dip pen linework — it is the most versatile and the closest comparison to Deleter Black 4. Type 3 only if you use screentones and have had lifting or adhesion problems with other inks. Super White for highlights and corrections
Can IC Comic inks be used in brush pens?
No. IC Comic inks are bottled drawing inks for dip pens and brushes — they should not be used in fountain pens or refillable brush pens. For a refillable brush pen, use Deleter Black 4 or Kuretake Zig Cartoonist Black.
