Tachikawa Maru Nib (Mapping Nib)

Tachikawa Maru Nib (Mapping Nib)

The Tachikawa Maru nib, also called a mapping nib, is the finest-line dip pen nib in Tachikawa's range — designed for small, consistent detail work such as eyes, hair, and fine linework that G-nibs and School nibs cannot achieve. It requires a dedicated Maru-compatible holder rather than a standard universal dip pen holder.

Nib Flexibility

Stiff, minimal flex — designed for consistency, not pressure-responsive line variation

Line Variation

Minimal — consistently fine, tubular/crowquill-style line regardless of pressure

Holder Fit

Requires a Maru/mapping-specific holder. Does NOT fit standard universal G-nib holders without an adapter — check your holder before ordering

The Nib Safety Net

"Gravity Happens. We’ve Got You Covered."

We know the heartbreak of a fountain pen hitting the floor. As a member of our Creative Rewards, you don't have to worry about the 'tines.' If the worst happens, just send us a photo and we'll send you a 50% discount for a fresh start.

"The Nib Safety Net" – Terms & Conditions

  • Eligibility: This benefit is exclusive to active members of the Creative Rewards program at the time of the accident.
  • Coverage: The 50% discount applies strictly to accidental damage (e.g., dropping the pen) that renders the nib unusable. It does not cover intentional damage, loss of the pen, theft, or normal wear and tear.
  • The Claim: To activate your discount, you must provide a clear photo of the damaged nib and your original order number to oops@yourstore.com.
  • Limitations: This discount is valid for a one-time replacement per pen purchased and applies only to the cost of the replacement nib unit. It cannot be combined with other promotional codes or used for full pen replacements.
  • Availability: We will provide the discount for the exact nib model where stock is available. If the model is discontinued, we will offer a 50% discount on a comparable alternative nib unit.

The Finest Line in the Range

The Maru nib fills a genuine gap that a G-nib or School nib cannot: very small, very consistent fine lines. It is the smallest nib in the Tachikawa range and produces a tubular, crowquill-style line ideal for fine detail — eyes, individual hair strands, and texture work where a G-nib's flex would be unwanted. It has a learning curve: the line is consistent but the nib is more delicate and less forgiving of heavy pressure than a G-nib.

Honest Note:

This is not a beginner's first nib — it's the right second or third nib once you've identified a need for fine detail work that your G-nib or School nib can't deliver. The holder compatibility issue is real and worth flagging clearly in your copy so customers don't assume universal fit.

Who is it For?

  • Manga and comic illustrators who need to add fine detail after laying down G-nib outlines
  • Illustrators working at small scale where a G-nib's line is too thick or too variable
  • Anyone whose current range (G-nib, School nib) has no nib genuinely suited to small detail work

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUSTIONS (FAQ)

Will this fit my existing G-nib holder?

Not necessarily. Maru nibs are a different shape from G-nibs and School nibs and typically need a dedicated holder. Check compatibility before ordering — if in doubt, a universal holder rated for Maru nibs specifically is the safe choice.

Is this harder to use than a G-nib?

Yes, slightly. It rewards a lighter, more consistent touch and is less forgiving of heavy pressure than a G-nib. Best added once you're comfortable with basic dip pen control.
